A ti leaf replica of the traditional maile lei, this stunning lei is made with fresh ti leaves, wrapped with tiny vibrant green pakalana blossoms, and drapes past the waist.

DURABILITY
Fairly durable.

DIMENSIONS
Width: 3 inches in diameter.
Length: About 6 feet from end to end. Drapes past the waist when worn.

CARE
Keep Ti Leaf Lei DRY (will stain clothes if not dry when worn), place in plastic bag and refrigerate. Ideal temperature 54°F (12°C).

RELATED INFORMATION
The pakalana flower is native to India and China, but it thrives in the Hawaiian Islands. The plant is a member of the Asclepiadaceae or Milkweed family with a slender vine and woolly branches. The heart-like shape flower has five, pointed petals, that resemble a heart. About 0.5 inches in length, the blossoms are greenish-yellow in color and are often at times revealing their typical fluffy seeds.

The tī plant was brought to Hawaii prior to 1778 by the early Polynesians from Tangaroa, Tane, Tī, and Rongo. Hawaiian Kī was considered sacred to the Hawaiian god, Lono, and to the goddess of the hula, Laka. It symbolized high rank and divine power. The leaves were used by the kahuna priests in ancient rituals as protection from evil spirits.

In old Hawaii, Kī was extremely important for practical reasons as well. It was commonly used medicinally. The leaves were wrapped around warm stones to serve as hot packs for injuries. The leaves were also boiled to make a drink, which aided in nerve and muscle relaxation, and the steam from boiled young shoots and leaves was an excellent decongestant.

RELATED INFORMATION
The tuberose is a night-blooming plant thought to be native to Mexico. It has been cultivated in Hawaii for many years now and has become a very popular lei making flower here. Its scent is described as a complex, exotic, sweet floral.

Dendrobium orchids have been among Hawaii’s most popular plants since they were introduced from the Philippines in 1896. They have since become the single most valuable commercial flower in Hawaii. Visitors to the Hawaiian Islands will notice orchids throughout their vacation – they may receive a fresh orchid lei upon arrival, or enjoy a tropical cocktail with a fresh orchid hanging on the lip of their glass.

The tī plant was brought to Hawaii prior to 1778 by the early Polynesians from Tangaroa, Tane, Tī, and Rongo.

Kukui nut leis are a striking display of traditional Hawaiian craft. Brought to Hawaii by the native Polynesian settlers, the kukui nut or "candlenut" is one of the most beautiful and important trees in the Hawaiian forests. While the oil was literally used to light lanterns, it also symbolizes the light within us, therefore this lei has deep meaning and may be given with the intention of honoring the light within the recipient.

This handsome lei has been constructed to mimic the traditional maile lei, and is extremely durable. Longer and fuller than a regular open-ended ti leaf lei, this is a very festive option for any occasion.

Ti Leaf Lei Process: Ti leaves are frozen or baked to create pliability for our lei making process. This preparation darkens the color of the ti leaf a bit and also preserves the strength and integrity of the leaf, ensuring it will hold up beautifully when worn.

The kukui, or candlenut tree, was probably introduced to Hawaii by early Polynesian settlers, because it has always been an essential part of Hawaiian society. Oil extracted from the kernels was used for lamps. Dyes for tapa cloth were obtained from the roots and green seed covering. Polished kukui nuts were sewn into leis. Because the tree’s products played an important part in the daily lives of the Hawaiians, the kukui nut tree has been designated the State Tree of Hawaii and the lei made of its flowers and leaves represent the Island of Molokai.

Immerse yourself in the rich cultural heritage of Hawaii with our traditional Ti Leaf Lei. Symbolizing protection, good luck, and prosperity, this lei is crafted from the lush, green leaves of the ti plant. Perfect for any occasion, the Ti Leaf Lei is a timeless accessory that embodies the spirit of aloha and adds a touch of natural elegance to your celebrations.

Ti Leaf Lei Process: Ti leaves are frozen or baked to create pliability for our lei making process. This preparation darkens the color of the ti leaf a bit and also preserves the strength and integrity of the leaf, ensuring it will hold up beautifully when worn.

DURABILITY
Our fresh ti leaf leis are very durable. If they arrive a bit sticky, wipe them with a clean damp cloth, let them dry, and return them to a plastic bag in the refrigerator until ready to use.

DIMENSIONS
Width: 1 inch in diameter.
Length: About 4 feet from end to end.

CARE
Keep DRY (will stain clothes if not dry when worn), store in plastic bag and refrigerate. Ideal temperature 60°F

A striking strand of kukuna-o-ka-la is intertwined with a fragrant maile lei. The perfect marriage of land and sea, the maile vine from the rainforest and the kukunaokala flower found at the beach.

DURABILITY
Perishable

DIMENSIONS
Width: 3 inches in diameter.
Length: About 6 feet from end to end. Drapes past the waist when worn.

CARE
Mist generously with water, wrap lei in moist paper towel, place in plastic bag and refrigerate. Ideal temperature 54°F (12°C).

RELATED INFORMATION
Vanilla-scented maile is a vine-like shrub that grows in the mountain rainforests of Hawaii. The vine bark and leaves are stripped and intertwined and knotted to make the maile lei. It is associated with Laka, the patron spirit of hula (dance), and was commonly used in sacred ceremonies. Today, the maile lei is the traditional lei used in very important ceremonies, such as weddings and funerals.

The stiff yellow/red flowers come from mangroves that were introduced to Hawaii in 1922. The flowers are gathered from trees that grow at the mouths of brackish water streams near the ocean, and are most plentiful during the late summer through the fall. The lei will keep well for over a week and is still wearable when it is completely dried.
